City of Yakima
Coho has served the City of Yakima on their Aquifer Storage and Recovery program since 2015. Our service builds on the experience, institutional knowledge and relationships developed over 20 years during which Chris worked with the City to establish a permitted and operational ASR program. His accomplishments in this program include:
- Retrofitting an existing well for ASR operation.
- Design and construction oversight of a purpose-built ASR well.
- Conducting all technical studies leading to issuance of an ASR permit.
Coho recently assisted the City with permit compliance and operational practices. Benefits of the ASR program include:
- Security of municipal water supply - additional peaking supply water rights.
- Increased redundancy, reliability, resilience, robustness in the face of climate change and increasing drought frequency.
- Flexible options for increasing instream flows during critical salmon need periods.
- Broad support from the agencies and stakeholders including funding.
Coho continues to contribute to ASR development and related groundwater management in the Yakima Valley with the City through the Yakima Basin Integrated Water Resource Management Plan.
